Conte labels his signings a ‘Disaster’

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been at loggerheads with the Stamford Bridge club’s board during the last couple of transfer windows over the signings he has been allowed to make.

This public feud with his club’s hierarchy and poor results on the pitch recently, has lead to speculation that the Italian coach is close to being sacked.

Speaking on the eve of his sides crunch Premier League clash against West Brom tonight, Conte bemoaned his ability to convince his board to sign top-class players when he said:

“I don’t know. Usually in my experience, I reached the best results possible with the players I have to work with.

“I think that I’m the type of coach who if I have a player who is 6/10, I bring him to an 8/10. If I have a player who is 8/10, I take him to 10/10. I’m this type of coach.

“My task is this and, for this, I’m very good. But I think I’m a bit of a disaster to convince the club to buy players. I think in this aspect I can improve a lot.

“I have to learn a lot from the other coaches, the other managers, in that aspect. I have to speak more with the managers who are very, very good at persuading their clubs to spend money to buy top players.”

Chelsea have actually spent over £250 million during the last two transfer windows on Alvaro Morata, Davide Zappacosta, Tiemoune Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater, Antonio Rudiger, Ross Barkley, Emerson Palmieri and Oliver Giroud.

However, Conte revealed last week that he believed the club would have been better off signing three of four world class players for the same amount.
