Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, has revealed that the real reason the club let him go in 2014 was over concerns about how his relationship with Cesc Fabregas.

Speaking to BT Sport Lampard stated:

“We never played together! They let me go to get Cesc in.

“Me and Cesc never really got on well on the pitch so they didn’t think we could share a dressing room.”

Lampard, left Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2014, which was the same time the club paid Barcelona £30 million for Fabregas.

He is currently working as a pundit with BT Sport, although he has made no secret of the fact that he would like to return to Chelsea in some capacity in the future.

Lampard holds no hard feelings about the club’s decision to sign Fabregas however, as he excepts that he was coming towards the end of his career at the time.

Chelsea have received excellent value for the £30 million they paid Barcelona to be fair, with the talented Spanish midfielder having played an instrumental part in the club winning two Premier League titles in his three seasons at the club.
