Borussia Dortmund in pole position to sign Manchester United star

Borussia Dortmund are in pole position to sign Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian International only moved to Old Trafford from the Bundesliga side 18 months ago, but has endured a difficult time in the Premier League and looks set to be sold in next months transfer window.

Mkhitaryan started the season in blistering form, racking up five assists in the opening four Premier League games. Since then however, his form has taken a bit of a nose dive. Reports claim that the playmaker has also had a bust up with Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho at a video analysis session and he has subsequently been excluded from eight out of the last nine match day squads, with Jesse Lingard seizing the opportunity in his absence.

There have been a number of rumours liking the midfielder away, including a move to Inter Milan. However, according to the Independent, it is former club Borussia Dortmund who are leading the race for his signature.

If Mkhitaryan does move back to the Bundesliga club, it wouldn’t be the first time a number 10 has moved to Man Utd from Dortmund, only to flop and move back to Germany. Shinji Kagawa moved to Old Trafford from Dortmund in 2012, but found himself back at the Westfalenstadion two-years later after an underwhelming spell in England.

According to the Mail, Manchester United are looking to recoup in excess £35m for the 28-year-old, which would represent a profit of over £10m.
