Benitez still confident of January signings

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has insisted he is still confident of bringing new faces into the club this month.

Benitez has been rocked by the news regarding a breakdown of talks between current owner Mike Ashley and potential new owner Amanda Staveley and her consortium.

The Spaniard has been waiting for a new owner and the investment that that would bring into the club to strengthen his struggling squad.

However, despite the apparent breakdown in takeover talks, Benitez has said he is still confident of making additions to his squad. Speaking after the 3-1 defeat against Manchester City, Benitez said:

“In my last conversation with Mike Ashley he said we have the green light to sign players and I would like to see some of them come in before 31 January and I have confidence we will do it.

“It is obvious the team is working very hard and we need more experience and quality to help the team. We have a list of players and then we have to try our best to make sure that we bring in what we need.”
