Arsenal suffer huge stumbling block in Mustafi deal

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi have been dealt a huge blow after it has been revealed that the defender will not be allowed to leave unless his release clause is met.

Arsenal have been linked with making a move to take the German to the Emirates in a deal in the region of £20million, but reports suggest that Valencia have grown tired of the negotiation process and will allow Mustafi to leave if his release clause is met.

The release clause in Mustafi’s contract is worth €50million (£43million), which is now the  only figure that will release Mustafi from his contract at the La Liga club.

Arsenal are not expected to be willing to pay such a high price for the German defender, who started on the bench for Valencia’s opening game of the season against Las Palmas last night.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with making a move for West Brom defender Jonny Evans who is an alternative to Mustafi.
