Arsenal make Celtic’s Kieran Tierney top target

Arsenal are reported to have made Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney their ‘top left back target’.

Unai Emery is planning a summer rebuild of his squad at the Emirates after Arsenal missed out on Champions League qualification, with the addition of a left-back high amongst his list of priorities in the transfer window.

According to the Mail, Celtic’s Tierney has now emerged as a top target for the North London side, though it would likely take a substantial bid to convince the Scottish champions to part with the 22-year-old.

The Scotland international, who has previously been linked to Manchester United, has always maintained his happiness at Celtic Park, where he has won four consecutive titles since his first-team breakthrough, however, the full-back could be tempted by the prospect of testing himself in English football.

Arsenal’s failure to secure Champions League football for a third consecutive season will restrict Emery in the transfer market this summer, with the Spaniard believed to be operating on a budget of around just £40m before player sales.

Emery is said to be convinced that Tierney can handle the step-up to the Premier League, and according to the report will table a bid to sign the youngster in the coming days.

Celtic will likely hold out for a fee in the region of £20m, with Tierney contracted at the club until 2023.
