Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd to miss out as midfielder decides to move to Barcelona

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United’s summer transfer plans have been dealt a blow with the news that Leon Goretzka has decided to move to Barcelona.

The Premier League trio have all been reported to be interested in signing the 22-year-old who is in the final year of his contract at Schalke.

The Bundesliga club have desperately been trying to tie the Germany international down to a new deal, but have admitted they are powerless to stop him leaving the club.

Schalke Sporting Director Christian Heidel said:

“We are trying to convince him, also financially. We are trying to look for the best way to convince him to stay, but without putting pressure on him.”

However, despite the interest from the Premier League big guns, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Goretzka has in fact decided to move to La Liga leaders Barcelona on a free transfer.

Despite his age, Goretzka made his debut for the senior German side back in May 2014, but subsequently missed out on the World Cup squad that year due to an injury. He did however in this summer’s Confederations Cup success in Russia, scoring his first goal for his country.

So far for Schalke this season he has scored four goals in 10 appearances.
