Alexis Sanchez saga takes new dramatic twist

The saga surrounding Alexis Sanchez’s future and his potential transfer away from Arsenal has taken a new dramatic twist this afternoon.

The 29-year-old was almost every club in the summer, including Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City. However it was Pep Guardiola’s side that ultimately came closest to securing his signature, having a £60m bid provisionally accepted on transfer deadline day. The move was however halted after Thomas Lemar refused to be rushed into a £92m move to the Emirates to replace the Chilean.

With the January transfer window now open, and Sanchez’s transfer value slashed in half, City have returned to the negotiating table with a £20m opening offer while they have already thought to have agreed personal terms with the player.

However, with Arsenal yet to respond to the bid, reports surfaced on Thursday that CIty’s Manchester rivals United lodged a £25m bid.

Initially I was reserved as to whether the reports were genuine or just a ploy to exploit more money out of Man City, however it seems now that they have some substance to them.

Now, in what could be a dramatic twist, Sky Sports claim that City will not be improving their offer, with Arsenal thought to be wanting £35m. That, coupled with agents fees of £5m, has made Manchester City baulk and potentially has left the door open for United to secure the player.

Elsewhere, reports in Italy claim that United are now edging closer to agreeing personal terms with Sanchez.

However, with less than six months on his current contract at the Emirates, Sanchez could decide to stay put and leave for nothing, and in turn, land himself a big pay day in the form of a signing on fee.
