West Ham United are almost certainly in the hunt to land a striker during this transfer window, with a couple of failed moves for Michy Batshuayi and Alex Lacazette clear for all to see. Now it looks as though they are about to take a different approach, by going for a player slightly older.
The Daily Mirror say that West Ham are keen on landing Fiorentina striker, and Germany international Mario Gomez. The German forward spent last season out on loan with Besiktas and found the back of the net over 25 times in the league alone, as his side won a Super Lig title for the first time in years.
The former Bayern Munich man has a real eye for a goal and has done throughout his career, and you feel his game could be tailormade to the physicality of the Premier League.
Gomez would provide a real aerial threat on both sides of the ball, and when given an opportunity he is a deadly finisher. Even if he’s just an option from off of the bench, this could well be an astute piece of business if the deal does go through.
