Southampton set to smash club transfer record

Southampton are closing in on their next summer signing which will see them smash their club transfer record.

The Saints are are on the verge of completing a £20million deal for Lille forward Sofiane Boufal.

Southampton will hope that 22-year old will be able to fill in the gaps in the clubs goalscoring department following the £34million sale of Sadio Mane to Liverpool and Graziano Pelles big money move to China earlier this summer.

Boufal scored 11 goals and provided five assist last season for the Ligue 1 club and has also attracted attention from Chelsea, Tottenham and Juventus.

However, it seems that Southampton have stolen a march in negotiations and a deal to bring the Algierian to the club will be completed within a number of days.

Once the deal is complete, it could also pave the way for Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez to leave the club with West Brom interested in taking him on loan.

The fee for Boufal will eclipse the £15million they spent on flop signing Dani Osvaldo.
