Aston Villa managed to survived the drop last season with a 15th placed finish. Paul Lambert has added Roy Keane to his backroom staff to try to give Villa that passion and desire that has sometimes been missing. Its clear that Lambert has the abilities to succeed as a manager, and it’d certainly help if the Aston Villa board begin to back him up with some big money.
Key Player: Belgian Striker Christian Benteke is by far Aston Villa’s key player. He is strong, quick and has an eye for goal. In his first season for the club, he hit 23 goals, but last season, he only managed to hit 11, following a string of injuries. If Villa are to avoid the drop once more, Benteke’s goals will be vital.
Joe Cole – Free (West Ham United)
Phillipe Senderos – Free (Valencia)
Kieran Richardson – Undisclosed (Fulham)
Aly Cissokho – £2.5m (Valencia)
Mark Albrighton – Free (Leicester City)
Aleksander Tonev – Loan (Celtic)
Last season’s Premier League finish: 15th
Predicted League Finish: 17th
With the signings that Villa have made so far, they should just about survive. Fabian Delph had a good season last season in midfield, and with the additions of Kieran Richardson and Joe Cole, they have added a bit more quality. More will be needed though in order to climb higher in the table.
