Cristiano Ronaldo wants to quit Real Madrid and sensationally return to Manchester United according to reports in Spain today.
The winger became the worlds most expensive player back in 2009 when Real Madrid smashed their own record of £56m by sanctioning an £80m move
Since his move to the Spanish capital, Ronaldo has won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey’s and three Champions League titles, as well as a further four Balon d’Or awards.
However he is growing increasingly frustrated at the Bernabeu, and according to Spanish publication AS, has been left feeling betrayed by club president Florentino Perez. It is claimed that Ronaldo has been promised a new deal by Perez after last seasons successful double winning campaign, yet that new contract has failed to materialise.
Ronaldo has previously stated his desire to retire at Real Madrid, but with Real Madrid’s public courting of the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in recent months, the Portuguese is now considering leaving the club.
There have been reports that Ronaldo could be used as a makeweight in a deal to take Neymar to the Bernabeu, with the 32-year-old in the other direction to PSG – a club who have been linked with wanting to sign him in recent years.
AS’s report claims however that he wants to return to Manchester United, a club where he spent six highly successful seasons and still has a great affection for. During his time at Old Trafford, he scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for the Red Devils, helping them to three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League cups and the 2008 Champions League title.
Whether United actually will make a move for Ronaldo is yet to be seen, especially with the club seemingly on the brink of signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
