Meunier: ‘Chelsea tried to sign me’

PSG star Thomas Meunier has admitted that Chelsea made a deadline day attempt to sign him earlier this summer.Antonio Conte spent the majority of the summer looking to sign a new full back, with Alex Sandro, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cedric Soares and Joao Cancelo among the names that were linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

They eventually settled on a deadline day move for Italian full back David Zappacosta, but it seems as though he wasn’t the only full back that they tried to sign.

Belgian full back Thomas Meunier told Sky Sports:

“The last day of the transfer period Chelsea made an offer to Paris Saint-Germain, but I know the answer was no.

“The club didn’t want to sell me because we have two right-backs with Dani Alves and myself, it was difficult to sell one of us.

“I didn’t really think about it [joining Chelsea] because they called me in to tell me, ‘You will not move, so don’t think about Chelsea or any other club. You will stay in Paris and we are counting on you for the season’.”

Meunier is also reportedly a target for former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho whi is interested in taking him to Manchester United.
