Manchester United’s interest in Neymar has long been rumoured, however the saga took a new twist yesterday as his father confirmed that Manchester United were the club who were willing to break the world transfer record to sign his son.
Neymar Snr revealed in court this week that a club was willing to pay the buyout clause in his sons contract, and now he has confirmed that Manchester United are that club.
Neymar Snr told Spanish radio station, COPE,
Manchester United is the side that offered €190m for Neymar.
He has still two years left on his contract but you can all be calm as my son is so happy here.
Despite Neymar being happy in Barcelona at the moment, it has been speculated that Neymar feels he will have to leave the club in order to be the main man at another club, rather than remaining in Lionel Messi’s shadows at Barcelona and just a part of their deadly attacking trident.
Neymar Snr’s comments were during a court case against Neymar Jr, over the fee paid for his sons services, when he transferred from Brazilian club Santos to Barcelona.
Neymar recently finished 3rd in the FIFA Balon d’Or awards behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
If Manchester United do stump up £145million for the Brazilian, it would eclipse the £85million paid by Real Madrid for Welsh winger, Gareth Bale, and the £80million Man Utd received themselves for Cristiano Ronaldo.
