Manchester United goalkeeper wanted by a number of Premier League and Championship clubs

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is wanted by a host of Premier League and Championship clubs.

The 24-year-old is the clubs third choice goalkeeper behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero, and spent last season on loan at Aston Villa.

According to the Manchester Evening News there are five clubs seeking to sign the goalkeeper on a permanent deal.

Those clubs include West Brom, Leicester City and Huddersfield from the Premier League, while Middlesbrough and Aston Villa want to take him into the Championship.

After a shaky start at Villa Park last season, his form returned, keeping eight clean sheets in 21 appearances for the Villains.

Johnstone’s representatives at James Grant Sports said:

“Sam has a number of options and is considering them all at this moment in time.”

Johnstone is yet to make his Manchester United debut despite being on the bench for a number of games, and has had loan spells at six different clubs since 2011.
