Manchester United defender attracting Stoke City interest

Manchester United forgotten man Phil Jones could be set for a Premier League reprieve as rumours suggest that Stoke City could be about to make a move for the defender.

The England international made a big money move to Old Trafford back in 2011 when he moved from Blackburn Rovers for around £19million, and was tipped as a future Manchester United great.

He has spent time playing at centre-back, right-back and as a defensive midfielder during his United career, but in recent times has spent more time on the treatment table than the Old Trafford turf.

United have since splashed £30million on Eric Bailly who has impressed since his move from Villarreal, whilst Daley Blind has also been converted into an excellent central defender, meaning Jones’ game time under Jose Mourinho could be further limited, especially given the interest shown in Southampton captain Jose Fonte.

Stoke City manager refused to confirm his interest in signing Jones on what could be either a loan or a permanent move, but was heard asking a journalist if the defender was in the crowd at the bet365 stadium for the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City yesterday.
