Manchester United and Real Madrid in sensational £170m transfer battle

Manchester United are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane according to reports, in a potential deal which could top £170m.

According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho is extremely interested in signing the England international. Kane has scored 117 goals for club and country since 2015, including an incredible 15 strikes in the last six weeks, attracting attention from Europe’s biggest clubs.

United made an offer to sign Kane a few years ago in a deal worth around £40m including former striker, Javier Hernandez. However, he with the transfer market in its current state, Kane could be valued as much as €200m (£179m)

A source close to Manchester United told the newspaper:

“The club had asked about Kane’s availability a few years back.

“They were told by Spurs there was no chance. Jose is a big fan and is very interested.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic will move on next summer, more than likely, freeing up a load of cash they plan to use.

“The problem for United is the money could get to a ridiculous level. It’s going to be more than Kylian Mbappe.

“It’s money they can lay their hands on but it will be interesting to see what Levy’s stance on the whole thing will be.”

Whether United will actually make a move for Kane is yet to be seen, especially considering the club’s £75m purchase of Romelu Lukaku just three months ago. Lukaku has started the season in fine form, scoring 11 in his first 10 goals for the Red Devils.

Real Madrid are also interested in signing Kane, and reports in Spain in the last few days have suggested that they are also prepared to make a move next summer. It is claimed that Zinedine Zidane is willing to offer Daniel Levy a straight swap deal, including Karin Benzema and former Spurs’ stars Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.
