Manchester City ready to offer £51million for Euro 2016 defender

After seeing a £34million (€40million) bid rejected earlier this week for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, Pep Guardiola is preparing to up his offer.

The Guardian claims that Manchester City will improve their offer to Juventus to £51million (€60million) for the centre-back.

The Italian was in fine form during Euro 2016, helping guide Italy to the quarter finals before their elimination on penalties to World Champions Germany.

Italy had been described as the worst Italian side in years, but their defensive solidity helped them surpass all expectations in the tournament.

Juventus are reluctant to sell Bonucci, who has also been linked to Chelsea and Manchester United, but a £51million bid for a 29-year defender will certainly test the Serie A champions resolve.

Guardiola has previously described the Italian as “one of my favourite players ever” – and any move for Bonucci surely puts the move for Everton defender John Stones in doubt.
