Man Utd and Arsenal join the race to sign £30m Brazilian

Manchester United and Arsenal have joined the battle to sign Brazilian midfielder, Fred, according to reports today.

Both clubs are on the look out for new attacking midfielders, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan out of form and set to be sold for United, while Arsenal are resigned to losing both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil either this month or in the summer.

Fred’s current club, Shakhtar Donetsk, are now thought to be ready to listen to offers for the 24-year-old, despite the player still having three-and-a-half years left on his current deal, with offers of around £30million thought to be enough to secure his signature.

It is thought that up to 10 of Europes biggest clubs are interested in signing him, including Manchester City, PSG, Napoli, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid, although Manchester United and Arsenal have the strongest interest from the Premier League according to the Star.

Fred left Brazil in 2013, moving from Internacional to the Ukrainian Champions Shakhtar, a club that seems to snap up so many promising Brazilians. During his time in Eastern Europe, he has played 140 games for the club, scoring 12 goals.

Last year, the Brazilian served a drugs ban after he tested positive for a diuretic-hydrochlorothiazide during the 2015 Copa America. He was banned from March until July 2017
