Manchester United star Juan Mata is set to be offered an Old Trafford escape route according to reports.
The Spaniard has widely been tipped as the player to be making way from the Manchester United first team with the imminent arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
Mata has just six months remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford, and while United have an option to extend it by a further year, although that option has not yet been taken up despite reports to the contrary earlier this month.
That situation means that Mata is able to discuss his future with any club outside of England, as well as sign a pre-contract agreement ahead of a free transfer next summer.
According to the Star, Mata’s former club Valencia are interested in re-signing the 29-year-old. He spent four years at the La Liga side before completing a £23.5m move to Chelsea in 2011. He spent three years with the Blues before making a then club record move to Manchester United for £37.5m.
However, the arrival of Jose Mourinho in summer 2016 has seen constant speculation surrounding Mata’s future, which is no surprise after the Portuguese criticised the Spaniard’s work rate before he sold him to United in 2014.
