Manchester United legend Gary Neville has responded to reports linking Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.
Sanchez was heavily linked with a move to a move to United’s ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City throughout the summer, but Arsenal’s failure to sign a replacement halted a potential £60m Deadline Day move to the Etihad.
However, the stunning form of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus up front for City at the start of this season has raised questions of whether Pep Guardiola will return for Sanchez.
There have since been reports linking Manchester United with a summer move for Sanchez, and former United full back Gary Neville has given his blessing to the move.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said:
“I’ve not seen the Alexis Sanchez news, so you have given me something I haven’t heard before, but, from that point of view, United, from a general perspective, should always be challenging for the best players in the world and bringing them in.
“Sanchez has been distracted at Arsenal for the last six months. His career at Arsenal, I couldn’t say a bad word about him until two or three months before the end of last season.
“I did feel he became distracted. Let’s see how he performs this season at Arsenal. Ultimately he is still building up his fitness, he’s still not in the team.”
It has been claimed that Sanchez will demand a £25m signing on fee next summer when he will of course be a free agent. He can discuss personal terms with any interested parties and sign a pre contract agreeement from January onwards when he enters the final six months of his deal with the Gunners.
