Man Utd and Arsenal to battle for Real Madrid sensation

Manchester United and Arsenal are both eyeing up a potential move for Real Madrid starlet Marco Asensio according to reports in Spain.

The Premier League giants are both in the market for a creative midfielder, with United being linked to Ivan Perisic while Arsenal have been linked to Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez. However Don Balon claim that they are both looking at the young Spaniard as a potential target this summer.

Real Madrid are believed to be unwilling to let the 21-year-old leave the Bernabeu this summer after a fantastic breakthrough campaign for Los Blancos last season. After successful loan spells at Mallorca and Espanyol, Asensio was retained by Real Madrid and made an excellent contribution to the side despite the wealth of attacking power at Zinedine Zidanes disposal.

Asensio made 34 appearances in total for the Spanish and European champions, scoring 10 goals in the process, more than £86m man Gareth Bale. Asensio even bagged the final goal in the Champions League final in Cardiff back in May.

United and Arsenal are apparently willing to splash the cash on signing Asensio, who are willing to offer the Spain international regular game time on the big stage, somewhat that cannot be guaranteed by Real Madrid.

Italian champions Juventus are also interested in signing the creative player, with a deal being potentially funded by selling Paulo Dybala to Barcelona, who are looking at the Argentinian as an option should Neymar make an eye watering £196m move to PSG this summer.

However, Asensio has been linked with signing a new six-year contract with the La Liga champions, with a massive €350m release clause. Liverpool have also seen a €50m bid rejected for the Spain U21 star earlier this summer, as Real Madrid look to keep hold of their player.
