Romelu Lukaku has revealed why he chose to join Manchester United rather than return to Chelsea in the summer.
It was one of transfer stories of the summer, with speculation widespread that Lukaku would return to Chelsea, while Manchester United would sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.
Then, out of the blue, it was announced that United had agreed a £75m deal with Everton for the Belgian striker, leaving Chelsea having to settle for Morata.
Now, speaking to ESPN Brazil, Lukaku has revealed exactly why he chose to move to Old Trafford rather than the reigning champions.
“Because before I had a dream of playing for the manager, Jose Mourinho. When I was little, at age of 11, I was at Chelsea.
“I was talking to my mum and dad that I wanted to play for him, because I really like his personality as a manager.
“He won many titles for Chelsea and Porto and now I’m very happy that I work with him. Because he’s a manager who knows what he needs to do to win the match and with him I learn a lot.”
Lukaku has had an excellent start to life in Manchester, scoring 19 goals in 36 appearances, although he is yet to find the net against any of the top six clubs so far this season.
