Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United are battling it out for the signature of Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins, report Sky Sports.
The pacey winger has been in fine form in the Primeira Liga this season, scoring four goals and providing two assist in 12 games.
Sporting is of course, no stranger to producing top-class wing talent having sold on the likes of Nani, Ricardo Quaresma and Simao, over the last decade or so, and many in Portugal believe that Martins will be the next player to move abroad and make a major impact.
The 22-year-old is blessed with blistering pace, excellent dribbling ability and a keen eye for goal. Liverpool and United have both been tracking the winger for some time now, although they would seem more likely to make a move for the talented attacker next summer, instead of in January.
Both clubs will face plenty of competition however, with Spanish heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid also credit with an interest in the player.
