After months of speculation surrounding the future of Thomas Lemar, it is claimed that Liverpool have now cooled their interest in the Monaco midfielder.
Liverpool were one of the clubs heavily inked with signing the Frenchman last summer, along with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona.
He had been tipped as a potential replacement for the now departed Philippe Coutinho, who completed his £142m move to the Camp Nou last month. Liverpool did make enquiries for Lemar during the summer, but Arsenal’s interest towards the end of the window saw his price sky rocket to £92m! That move ultimately didn’t happen and no subsequent January move was forthcoming for the Frenchman.
Reports this week have suggested that he is set to reject a new deal with the reigning French champions, which is thought to have given all interested parties a boost in their hopes of signing him.
However, according to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool will not be one of those clubs who will be pursuing their initial interest in the player.
Lemar caught the eye last season, bagging 14 goals and providing 17 assists as Monaco won their first Ligue 1 title in 17 years as well as reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
However, his stats have dramatically dropped off this season, managing only three goals and five assists.
