Liverpool linked with shock move for Dortmund star

Following the departure of Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool are reportedly interested in replacing him with Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

In the wake of Coutinho’s record-breaking move to Barcelona, Liverpool are eyeing up replacements this January. With a staggering £142m available to spend they have been scouring Europe for potential deals.

Liverpool’s number one target is believed to be Monaco’s Thomas Lemar. However, stiff competition from Arsenal and Chelsea could prove to be a stumbling block. Instead, Liverpool could turn their attentions to Dortmund’s star striker Aubameyang according to the Metro.

The Gabon international had reportedly agreed a £63.5m deal to move to China with Guenghzou Evergrande and Beijing Guoan both interested. However, his reluctance to commit to the move has given Liverpool confidence they can lure him to Anfield.

Despite rumours that Aubameyang has been pining for a move away from Borussia Dortmund, he has been in lethal form this season. With 21 goals from 23 games in all competitions Aubameyang has given his full commitment to helping Dortmund achieve success.

Jürgen Klopp of course worked with Aubameyang during his time as Dortmund manager which will give him increased hope of convincing the forward to join Liverpool. With Coutinho out of the picture Firmino could be dropped back to the number 10 position leaving space for a new striker up front.
