Liverpool apparently agreed a deal in principle with Schalke and Cameroon defender, Joel Matip. According to Sky Germany, Liverpool are set to sign the Schalke centre back this summer on a free transfer.
Matip, 24, will be a free agent this summer and is now entitled to start speaking with other clubs about his future and is said that Liverpool manager Klopp, is an admirer from his time managing Borrussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
Because Matip is in the last 6 months of his contract, Liverpool can speak directly to Matip and agree a deal, without the need to speak to his current club, Schalke. Schalke have wanted to extend the defenders contract but it is believed he has made it clear he wants to move on.
