Liverpool close in on Salah

Liverpool are keen on signing Mohamed Salah and will make him their first choice winger this summer.

With Liverpool lacking wingers in their squad, Jürgen Klopp is keen on adding another. The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce has confirmed that Liverpool have targeted the Roma winger and will be looking to make a move for him this summer.

Salah has enjoyed an excellent season for Roma scoring 15 goals in 31 Serie A appearances. If Liverpool are to acquire Salah it is believed he would cost upwards of £40m.

The price tag may seem fairly high considering his struggles in the season he spent with Chelsea in the Premier League. However, Liverpool believe he could add a lot to their offense and are not deterred by his poor Premier League record.

In fact, Liverpool have been monitoring Salah for some time as Pearce told Rousing the Kop:

“Salah is a target and Liverpool’s interest in him goes back beyond Klopp’s reign. Rodgers wanted to sign him from Basel in January 2014 but Chelsea came in with a higher offer and took him to Stamford Bridge instead”

With Salah believed to be close to joining Liverpool the transfer may have to wait until after Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier. For Salah to make the move to Anfield it appears Champions League football may be necessary.
