Liverpool and Manchester City will battle it out this summer in a shock move for a relegated Newcastle United winger, Andros Townsend according to reports today.
The former Tottenham Hotspur winger has a £10.5million buyout clause in his contract at the Magpies, a clause that a number of clubs are willing to trigger.
The Mirror claims that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is just one of the wingers admirers and plans on making a move for the 24-year old. The article claims that the German is looking to add more pace to his attack, and will make a move for Townsend if moves for more expensive targets don’t come off. Klopp is looking to sign Saido Mane, Leroy Sane or Theo Walcott, but Townsend is now also on the list.
However, if Klopp wants to take Townsend to Anfield, he will have to beat off attention from Pep Guardiola who also wants to sign Townsend as part of his Manchester City squad overhaul.
Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Southampton have all registered serious interest in signing the winger.
