Leicester 0-3 Crystal Palace: Five things we learned

Crystal Palace finally score and win away from home to move out of the relegation zone, meanwhile Foxes stuck in eighth.

Benteke breaking his duck

Benteke has looked decent in recent weeks, but had yet to score. That paired with the penalty kerfuffle meant that there has been a lot of noise surrounded him. He scored from a header and celebrated accordingly.

Benteke is a streaky player, which means it is only good news for Palace now he’s finally broken his goal drought. He is also Palace’s fourth top scorer in the Premier League of all time, and he briefly moved to 3rd until Zaha scored his 17th Premier League goal for Palace.

Zaha rewarded for his silky form lately

Benteke did well to hold his defender off, played him through and Zaha was clinical while in on goal. He has been fantastic lately and was directly involved in both goals against Watford and was equally fantastic against Leicester, getting a nice goal in the process.

With Zaha in form and Benteke coming back in form, Palace fans probably won’t have to wait quite as long for the next away goal.

Premier league at it’s unpredictable best

Leicester City had won the last four games and had scored in every home game this season bar the loss to Man City. They hadn’t lost in five either. Crystal Palace however had four draws and two wins from the last six, whole they hadn’t scored away from home in any of the eight away games this season. In fact they had not scored away since back in April. Benteke hadn’t scored in 960 minutes minutes of football. So of course it was a 3-0 win for Crystal Palace, including the opener from Benteke. The Premier League at it’s unpredictable best!

Leicester fans need not worry

Every team (maybe not, Man City) will have a dip in form in the Festive period. Leicester still looked strong on the counter and on another day would have scored. The problem may lay with the defence, who have kept only three clean sheets from their 18 league games this season. A team that have been so strong defensively in their recent past would do well to find that again, if only to alleviate the pressure on the frontline.

Bakary Sako – a new impact sub?

This is one mainly for the fantasy football fans, Sako has come off the bench in two consecutive games and scored two goals.

Against Leicester it was maybe not a decisive goal but Roy now has Zaha and Benteke firing, as well as a player on the bench in Sako who is hungry. He is also Palace’s joint top scorer this season with a mouth watering four goals – Palace’s impact sub?
