Everton are exploring to possibility of signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer.
Ronald Koeman arrived at the club last month and identified Evertons goalkeeping department as a cause for particular concern, with only Spanish ‘keeper Joel Robles on the books after Tim Howard’s departure.
Since then, Koeman has already added Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg to the ranks, but he is only seen as a reserve goalkeeper at best. Koeman is keen to add another, one one who will be challenging for the number one spot.
Tim Krul of Newcastle and Jasper Cillesen of Ajax are possibilities for Everton, but their number one choice would be the signing of Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who’s performances last season were instrumental in the Foxes’ run to the Premier League summit.
It is thought that the 29-year old, son of the great Danish ‘keeper Peter Schmeichel, has a £17million release clause in his deal at Leicester. He is thought to be happy at the club, but with N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez speculated to be on the move, Everton want to test the water.
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennesey and Chelsea’s Asmir Begovic have also been discussed.
