Manchester Uniteds turbulent season continued at the weekend after the club threw away 2 points at Stamford Bridge after Diego Costa’s late equaliser. Louis van Gaal is in bullish mood though amid reports that Jose Mourinho could be about to take his job, but there are widespread reports this morning that Jose Mourinho has told his close friends that the job is his.
The reports, which feature in most of the British newspapers this morning, claim that the Portuguese has confided in his close friends and has said it is a ‘done deal’ for him to takeover the Old Trafford hot seat.
Mourinho has been out of work since December when he was sacked by Chelsea, but it is no secret that the Manchester United job is one that he would covet the most. These revelations would mean the end of Louis van Gaals career in what has been a mixed two year spell at the club.
Van Gaal guided Manchester United back to the Champions League this season, but they were knocked out in the group stages. United were also knocked out of the League Cup by lower league opposition, as well as struggling in fifth position this season, six points from fourth placed Manchester City.
Reports in Spain this morning Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, claim that Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who already has close ties with Man Utd, is negotiating a €20million-a-year contract until 2019 for his client.
