Liverpool’s Premier League hopes have been dealt a huge blow with the news that Sadio Mane has suffered a serious injury.
The winger has suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty with Senegal, an injury which is set to keep him out of action for six weeks. He was replaced late into the 2-0 win against Cape Verde and looks set to miss some absolutely huge games for the Reds.
A statement on the Liverpool website reads:
“The winger was substituted 89 minutes into Senegal’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday.
“And it has now been confirmed that he picked up an injury during that fixture that could keep him out of action for up to six weeks.”
Mane is a vital part of Liverpool’s attacking play with his blistering pace and eye for goal. He has already scored three goals for the club this season, having scored 13 goals in his debut campaign last season. His season was cut short last season after he suffered a knee injury, an injury which coincided with a downturn in form for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He is set to miss eight games for Liverpool starting this weekend as the Reds host Manchester United at Anfield. He will asleo miss Premier League games against Tottenham, Huddersfield, West Ham and Southampton, as well as three games in the Champions League.
He has recently been included in the 30 Man shortlist for the Balon d’Or award.
