Alderweireld injury blow for Spurs

Tottenham’s title charge has been dealt a huge blow with the news that Toby Alderweireld could be sidelined for the rest of the year.

The Belgian hasn’t played since limping off during Spurs’ incredible 3-1 win over Real Madrid where he picked up a hamstring injury.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s North London Derby, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that he expected the defender to be out until the festive football period:

“We expect longer than previously when the problem happened.

“Maybe after the Christmas period is the expectation. He is a little bit sad.”

Spurs face at least 11 games without their star defender during his absence, including games against Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, all away from home within the next four weeks.
