Guardiola refuses to comment on Sanchez speculation

Speaking after his sides 4-3 defeat to Liverpool today, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola refused to be drawn on whether his club are still interested in signing Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez.

When quizzed about the speculation surrounding the player he formerly managed at Barcelona he said:

“He is an Arsenal player.”

“I talk about the players in my squad now. We have the players we have. I don’t know if we will finish with that. We have four competitions, a lot of games and we are going to try.”

City had looked in pole position to sign the player either this month or when his contract expires next summer. However, with the club refusing to pay more than £20 million to sign him during the current transfer window, their arch rivals Manchester United have swooped in with a deal said to be more lucrative in terms of the fee Arsenal will receive and the wage package on offer to the player.

Reports this morning stated that the Red half of Manchester are now confident of securing a deal for the Chile international, although it has also been revealed that Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in signing the player.
