Griezmann snubs Premier League interest to sign five-year deal at Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that their star player Antoine Griezmann has signed a new five-year deal at the club.

There has been plenty of Premier League interest in signing the French forward, notably from Manchester United and Chelsea, however the 23-year old has decided to stay at the Vicente Calderon for now.

Upon signing his contract, Griezmann told the club website:

I’m very satisfied, very happy to keep belonging to this family and this project. I want to improve every year, and the club, the coaches and my teammates can help me to reach this goal.
the club wants to keep the level as high as possible and we have to give everything to continue growing. I hope we can keep this way and continue with this goal.

Personally I’d like to score more goals, have more time and matches to play, assist more… My goal is always to be better than the last season. At the collective level we are looking for doing better than the last year as well.

It’s essential to continue keeping the important players, with the coach. We’re lucky to be in this club that wants to improve and reach the top and help us keep growing.

I can only thank them [the fans] for all the support they’re always giving to the team, and ask them to keep supporting us like they’ve done until this moment. From my behalf, let them know that I’ll keep giving the best of me in the field as a way to thank them for all the affection they show me

.

Griezmann is currently on International duty at Euro 2016 with France, where he has scored one goal.
