It isn’t uncommon to see ex-Premier League players make shock moves when they’ve passed their best. However, this move might just be up there with one Jermaine Pennant.
It has been announced that former Spurs star and French international Pascal Chimbonda has joined Northern League side Washington in England’s ninth tier.
Chimbonda was seen in the Washington dug-out for their 1-1 draw with Whitley Bay on Tuesday and was announced as the clubs newest signing on Wednesday.
The club posted a video of Chimbonda’s first interview which you can view here:
The Frenchman has been without a club since leaving French second division side AC-Aries-Avignon in February 2015.
Washington have had difficulties defensively this season and have conceded 34 in 15 games this season. They will be hoping the experience and quality of Chimbonda will help aid them this year.
Chimbonda’s debut will be on 7, October 2017 when Washington host Penrith in the Northern League Division One. If you’re in Sunderland, you can watch Washington on non-league day at the Nissan Sports and Leisure complex, Washington Road, SR5 3NS.
Best of luck to Pascal and Washington for the season ahead.
