Everton have confirmed the signing of 17-year-old Lewis Gibson from Newcastle United for a fee believed to be in the region of £6million
The England youth international has spent most of his time in Newcastle’s Under 18’s system and was a key part of the squad that made the Youth cup semi-final under Dave Watson.
Gibson has made 16 appearances for England’s U17’s, scoring twice.
The youngster stated that “Everton’s reputation for bringing in young players” was a key incentive for him to join the Toffees.
When asked to describe his playing style for the Everton faithful, Gibson said:
“I’m a player who is willing to put my body on the line, the kind of defender who likes to tackle and is not afraid. I’m excited to be part of things here and I want to continue developing as a player. This is where I want to be.”
The defender is versatile and can play along the backline. However, he is more comfortable as a left-back or a center back.
