Everton eye £30million midfielder as Koeman looks to spend £100million war chest

Ronald Koeman has been handed a £100million transfer fund at Everton to improve in the clubs disappointing campaign last season, and has targetted a £30million midfielder as the first part of his squad overhaul.

The well sourced Liverpool Echo claim that Koeman will make a £30million move for his Dutch compatriot Kevin Strootman, who was a long term target for Manchester United.

Strootman moved to Roma in a big money move back in 2013, but a series of long term knee injuries have seen his career stall. After making 25 appearances in his debut season, he has only managed to make 13 appearances in the two seasons since.

However the 26-year old returned to the action in February means that Everton are now involved in the race to sign the powerful midfielder.

They have also been linked with making a move for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel.
