Euro 2016: Day Nine Round-Up

The second round of group games at Euro 2016 is now complete, and yet only France, Spain and Italy have secured their place in the last 16 stage of the tournament.


Belgium 3-0 Republic of Ireland, Group E
Belgium got their first points of the campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory against Republic of Ireland. Everton striker Romelu Lukaku grabbed a brace, either side of an Axel Witsel goal. The result leaves Ireland on the brink of exit.

Iceland 1-1 Hungary, Group F

Hungary maintained their lead at the top of Group F with a 1-1 draw against fellow minnows Iceland. Iceland took the lead through a Gylfi Sigurddson penalty, before they denied themselves of a famous victory after Saevarsson scored on own goal to gift Hungary a point.

Portugal 0-0 Austria, Group F

Three time Balon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty as his Portugal side failed to break down Austria in a result which helps neither of the favourites in Group F
