Euro 2016: Day 3 Round-Up

Three days into the tournament and yet another wonderful goal was scored, whilst two teams were threatened with disqualification from the competition.

The fall out from the England and Russia game continued today as UEFA threatened both countries with disqualification following the violent clashes between rival fans on the streets of Marseille. The European governing body also started disciplinary proceedings against Russia after a series of events inside the stadium, including fans breaking into the England section to attack rival supporters again.

Meanwhile, on the pitch, attention turned to Group C and D today, with three more matches taking place.

Turkey 0-1 Croatia, Group D

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric scored an absolute screamer to settle this tie. The ball dropped to the Croatian 30 yards from goal, who volleyed the ball into the back of the net to score what was the only goal of the game to go top of Group D.

Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland, Group C

It has been 30 years since Northern Ireland last competed in a major tournament, but their 12 game unbeaten run was finally broken as Ajax striker Arkadiusz Milik broke Irish hearts to give the Poles a 1-0 win.

Germany 2-0 Ukraine, Group C

The World Champions got their European campaign underway with a 2-0 victory against Ukraine. Shkodran Mustafi opened the scoring in the first half before Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger scored one minute after coming on as a late substitute. The result leaves Germany ahead of Poland at the top of Group C.
