DONE DEAL: Stoke break club record to bring in Porto player

With just 25 minutes remaining of the Transfer window, Stoke a City have completed the signing of Giannelli Imbula by smashing their club transfer record.

Imbula, who signs from FC Porto, joins the Potters in an £18.3million on a five-and-a-half year contract. The defensive midfielder only arrived at Porto this summer in a €20m move from Marseille, but after having failed to settle, Porto have cashed in.

Mark Hughes said;

Giannelli is a good young player. He has great power, good ability on the ball and a great range of passing and there’s no doubt he will add to the quality that we already have at the club.

He played against us in pre-season and although I was already aware of him, seeing him first hand resonated with me.

Imbula will be unavailable for Stokes game against Manchester United tomorrow night but could be available for selection against Everton at the weekend.
