Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea, has pledged his future to Manchester United, and vowed to ignore all reported interest from Real Madrid, according to today’s Telegraph.
Real Madrid, who have just received a transfer ban starting next summer, are still believed to be interested in signing the Manchester United goalkeeper, who they attempted to sign on deadline day last year.
Real Madrid intend to appeal the ban they have received. Should the appeal fail, they will be unable to sign anyone until Summer 2017.
With De Gea currently at Manchester United, it means they would have to sign the Madrid born goalkeeper before the window slams shut in less than two weeks time.
However, de Gea has now decided to stay at Old Trafford and ignore all interest from the Spanish Giants.
De Gea was dropped at the beginning of the season in favour for Sergio Romero, following Real Madrid’s interest in the Spaniard. However, after the transfer to Real Madrid, dramatically collapsed at the last minute, de Gea was reinstated to the United first team, and was greeted to the field like a King, by the Old Trafford Faithful.
De Gea acknowledged the reception he received as a huge positive and now sees his future at Old Trafford, putting behind him all of the frustrations of the failed summer move.
De Gea has now set his sights on being a legend at Old Trafford, rather than at the Santiago de Bernabeau, sighting Manchester United legends, Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar’s status, as something he would like to emulate.
They were the greatest goalkeepers in the Premier League. They are legends at this club. This is what I want.
I’m not sure who is the best now, but it is what I want. I also want to win trophies for Manchester United.
David de Gea was the man of the match in this weekends game against Anfield rivals, Liverpool after a string of stunning saves.
De Gea will be hoping for more top class performances this season in order to grasp the #1 Spanish jersey for the 2016 European Championships.
