Thibaut Courtois is set to finally sign a new contract extension at League leaders Chelsea after toppling Petr Cech from the number 1 spot.
Courtois, who has started all three of Chelsea’s opening games this season, will see him more than double his current £30,000-a-week deal.
He still has 2 years remaining on his Chelsea deal, but it is believed his new deal with extend his stay until 2019.
The 22 year old Belgian goalkeeper had been stalling on a new contract as he wanted to ensure regular game time at Stamford Bridge, following three successful years at Atletico Madrid, culminating in the La Liga title and a Champions League finalist year.
He still faces a battle with the longstanding number 1, Petr Cech, but it’s a battle that Courtois seems to be winning so far, and this new deal at Chelsea will ensure the blues have one of the finest ‘keepers in to world, for many years to come.
Paris St Germain and Monaco have been interested in Petr Cech but he has decided to stay at Chelsea for the time being.
