This is getting ridiculous now…Chelsea have been linked with having an interest in signing yet another striker.
The Blues search for a striker in this last week or so has looked even more desperate than I did on Christmas Eve as I searched for that perfect present for the wife.
Chelsea were initially linked with a potential £20m move for Andy Carroll, but a move didn’t happen after the former Liverpool man was ruled out with an ankle injury that could keep him out for three months.
If that wasn’t surprising enough, the links with Stoke’s Peter Crouch and Burnley’s Ashley Barnes that followed certainly were, as were the brief suggestions linking the Blues to Leicester’s Islam Slimani.
More recent speculation has suggested that Chelsea are keen on landing Roma striker Edin Dzeko, but that move could be halted unless the club refuse to change their policy of offering one year contracts to the 30-year-olds.
Will Antonio Conte be in charge of Chelsea at the start of the 2018/19 season?
Now with the deal for Dzeko in the balance, Chelsea have been linked with yet another big strong centre forward, as reports suggest that Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud is a target.
Giroud has been a target for Borussia Dortmund as a replacement for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who has been linked with a move to the Gunners. However it is thought that the Frenchman does not fancy a move to Germany.
Now, according to the Mirror, Chelsea are considering making a move for the Arsenal target man, who has started just one Premier League game this season.
While a move for Dzeko is still the most likely, Chelsea are aware that they have less than one week remaining in the transfer market and are assessing all possible options ahead of a potential move.
