Chelsea eye Stoke star as Courtois replacement

Chelsea are interested in Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland, as uncertainty surrounding the future of their current number one Thibaut Courtois increases, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

As we reported earlier in the week, Courtois is stalling on a new deal at Stamford Bridge with several of Europe’s biggest clubs including Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus all keen on securing his services.

Therefore, Chelsea have made 24-year-old Butland their number one target to replace the Belgium international.

The Stoke City keeper is currently out injured with a hand injury, but has been in superb form for Mark Hughes in the games he has played so far this season.

Butland is a superb shot-stopper and has excellent distribution off either foot. Many believe he is now England’s best goalkeeper, and that he should be the country’s number one, when they head to Russia for the 2018 World Cup next summer.

Although Butland decided against a move to Stamford Bridge as a teenager due to concerns over a lack of first team opportunities, the chance to move there now as a direct replacement for Courtois would surely be too much for the young keeper to turn down.
