Chelsea and Man Utd to miss out on Alvaro Morata signing?

Chelsea and Manchester United could be set to miss out on the signing of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata according to reports in Spain.

Antonio Conte is a big admirer of the striker and has reportedly made him his number one transfer target this summer, while Jose Mourinho has also been linked with making a move for the Spaniard. It has been claimed that Jose Mourinho could demand Morata as part of a deal to take David de Gea to the Spanish capital.

However, both clubs could be about to miss out as Spanish media outlet Marca claim that the Real Madrid striker has flown to Italy to secure a transfer to Serie A giants AC Milan.

The striker is of course no stranger to the Italian league, having spent two seasons at Juventus where he scored 27 goals in 93 appearances, before transferring back to Real Madrid last summer. However, despite his impressive form this season, the 24-year-old has failed to dislodge Karim Benzema as the club’s first choice striker and has been linked with a move away from the club for the second time in his career.

The article claims that the Rossonieri will offer €60m for the striker services, while Real Madrid will hold out for €70m-€75m. The striker himself is set to earn €7.5m-a-year.

Morata is aware that he needs to play more football to ensure he is in the Spain squad for next summer’s World Cup in Russia, and a move to AC Milan would provide the ideal opportunity.

This coupled with the fact that his fiancée is Italian, could see both Chelsea and Manchester United miss out on one of their top transfer targets this summer.
