Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld is said to be unsettled in North London, with Premier League club’s Chelsea and Manchester United preparing a move for talented Belgium international.
The 28-year-old has been surprisingly left out of Spurs squad for their Champions League tie away to Juventus tonight, despite claiming that he is fully fit after recovering from a long-term injury.
The London Evening Standard are reporting that Alderweireld’s relationship with Mauricio Pochettino, has become strained over a reluctance to bring him back into the first team fold.
The classy defender is also yet to sign a new contract with Spurs, and is said to be unhappy with his current £50,000 per week deal, which is way below the level players of his calibre command at other top-six club’s.
Alderweireld joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid for £11.5 million in 2015, and has blossomed into one of Europes top centre halves.
Chelsea and United are both said to be monitoring his situation closely with a view to a summer move. Jose Mourinho’s side in particular could desperately do with a ball playing centre-back in the mould of Alderweireld.
