Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been banned by FIFA from making transfers for 18 months.
The Madrid clubs have been banned for breaching regulations in relation to the recruitment of young players. Atletico Madrid have been fined 900,000CHF (£622,000) whilst Real Madrid are fined 360,000CHF (£249,000)
The ban, the same as Barcelona received 18 months ago, will come into effect immediately after the current transfer window meaning that both clubs are free to make signings in January.
Barcelona appealed their ban, which meant the transfer embargo was temporarily lifted, this allowed them to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool, but then banned again once the appeal had been heard and failed. The club were able to make signings, such as Arda Turan in summer 2015, but they weren’t allowed to register players until the ban was over.
Real Madrid have been linked with signing of Manchester Uniteds David de Gea and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard but both will be unable to join until Summer 2017, unless they are able to delay the ban, or sign this month.
