BREAKING: Manchester City move is OFF as Aymeric Laporte extends Bilbao contract

Manchester City’s proposed move for Athletic Bilbao centre back is OFF as the defender has signed a contract extension with the La Liga club.

The French defender, who is currently out injured, was thought to be close to completing a summer transfer to Manchester City, as Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of the 22-year old.

However, Athletic Bilbao have confirmed in the last few moments that Laporte has signed a new four year deal at the club which sees him remain at the Basque club until 2020. The new contract also see’s his release clause rise to €70million.

Laporte’s release clause was previously €50million, something City were prepared to pay, however, with Athletic Club notoriously impossible to negotiate with, a deal to take the defender to Manchester now seems dead in the water
